Most small hire cars have CO2 emissions above 140g/km and are simply left standing by their cleaner and cooler successors. The Smart fortwo diesel produces emissions at just 83g/km, with the larger Fiat 500 1.2 Sport only slightly increased at just 119g/km. The two GnG choices will regularly return 33% higher mpg than other cars in this sector. Both GnG groovy choices provide high levels of comfort and spec normally only found in premium car hire models with other firms, making for a much more satisfying and enjoyable drive in this "basic" category.
Want a supermini or a cool hire car in London • GnG Choice: MINI Cooper D
When it comes to helping the environment other cars in this sector are simply outclassed by the MINI Cooper D. It is an ECO dream with CO2 emissions at just 104g/km. Importantly it also looks good and is not an ugly ECO box like the Prius or VW Polo. Quite simply the MINI offers just about everything you could want from a small car. It has huge street cred, looking fantastic and when it comes to saving fuel, it records a whopping 80mpg.
Family car hire or prestige car hire? Its the same at GnG • GnG Choice: BMW 118d 5 dr
Several car manufacturers have made attempts at a green family car but in the main, the changes have mainly been to refine their existing technology. They have not gone onto the next stage of utilizing, for example, an auto stop-start operation. This brings us onto the BMW which has CO2 emissions of 119g/km but is also a class act. GnG considered the Golf 1.9 TDI Bluemotion and Toyota Prius but importantly the ‘Groovy’ factor just does not exist with these 2 cars. Green car hire should not mean having to sacrifice style. GnG cars need to be good looking and quite simply several cars do not suit the GnG image. With BMW’s use of its EfficientDynamics technology providing similar green credentials to the Prius and the BMW 118d’s title as the current “World Green Car of the Year” we believe this car with a 2.0 engine is in a higher league than its similar sized competitors whether they be eco friendly cars or not. Importantly we also believe that BMW’s high build quality and premium car hire image fully justifies its position as the family car in the GnG range.
Fun convertible rental in London • GnG Choice: Mini Convertible
GnG believes in customer service and if our customer wants to hire a convertible then they should receive the car that was ordered. If at the time of order we do not have the car available then we will tell you. We will not take your money, wait for you to arrive and fob you off with the keys to a completely different car. Looks are everything in this sector so the ‘Groovy’ factor is generally satisfied. Prestige car hire costs a lot of money so the large car hire firms tend to supply the lowest spec petrol powered convertible model in the range.
